Today's Thought of the Day It's not a cattle chute!
Because of narrower and narrower home sites, many newer home designs have a longer entry foyer/hall. While the long view from the entry is always a priority (perhaps a fireplace or wall of windows out the back), equal consideration needs to be paid to designing the entry hall so that it doesn't feel like a "tunnel".
Ceiling heights in entry halls are often taller for an added sense of spaciousness, and this space can also be ideal for showcasing interesting ceiling details. Lighting in the entry hall is important, too, because if it is darker it will feel more closed-in. Another designer touch is to incorporate recessed display niches in the walls of the hallway for displaying art. This "gallery feel" is amazing compared with simply hanging pictures along the entry hall!
